Old Charminar bus stand stinks; turned into a garbage dump

Hyderabad: The city is in the grip of mosquito menace but the sanitary situation continues to be in shambles.

The GHMC, it seem has left out the areas around Charminar from its clean Hyderabad campaign.

The old Charminar bus stand which was once a center of activities has now been turned into a big garbage dumping yard with the foul smell emanating from heaps.

The new Charminar bus terminal was built in 1989 and the old bus stand was pulled down with a proposal to construct multi-level parking at the same place. No one knows why that proposal was dropped.

One can watch in a video by siasat.com that the GHMC workers are dumping waste in the bus stand premises without any legal permission. This dumping yard has also turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It can also be noted that there are many tourist buses and other vehicles parked in that area but most of the space is occupied by the huge pile of garbage and filth leaving almost no space for parking vehicles.

Earlier, it was used as TSRTC bus parking area and it was maintained by that corporation. But since its demolition, it has become a garbage dumping yard.

“The garbage dumping by the GHMC was brought to the notice of concerned authorities many times but no action has been taken,”  says Shaik Moin, a resident of Charminar.
