Photo of NZ Speaker cradling MP’s baby wins hearts online

Photos and video of New Zealand‘s parliamentary Speaker cradling and bottle-feeding while presiding over the House is getting praise from across the globe.

Speaker Trevor Mallard tweeted photos of himself feeding and cradling MP Tāmati Coffey’s baby boy Tūtānekai saying, “Normally the Speaker’s chair is only used by Presiding Officers but today a VIP took the chair with me.”

Video from the chamber showing six-week-old Tūtānekai Smith-Coffey went viral on social media praising the New Zealand Speaker, who is a father-of-three.

Increasingly, many applauded New Zealand’s PM Jacinda Ardern when she continued to lead her country while pregnant.
