Photos: Kashmir valley receives heavy snowfall; normal life hit

The snow and rains that lashed the higher reaches of Kashmir valley for two consecutive days, have thrown life out of gear.

Fresh snowfall and rains blocked many local roads in villages as Srinagar-Jammu highways on Tuesday afternoon was cleared of landslides, allowing stranded vehicles to proceed.

Fresh snow has thrilled some batches of tourists in the Ski Resort of Gulmarg. While all the health resorts including Pahalgam in South Kashmir received snowfall, the footfall of tourists is very dismal since August, 5-2019.

Srinagar-Leh Highway remained closed while the beacon men and machinery was busy clearing snow from Sonmarg up to Zojila stretch. Due to heavy snowfall in Shopian of South Kashmir, another alternate highway from this district knows as Mughal Road remained closed for vehicular traffic.

Disaster Management Department of Jammu and Kashmir Govt has issued avalanche warnings in all the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir got closed by heavy snow.

Weatherman in Kashmir has said that this wet spell will remain up to Wednesday afternoon and has indicated that the weather will remain pleasant afterward.
