Piyush Goyal’s old video reciting ‘Kalma’ sparks Twitter storm

New Delhi: An old video of Railways Minister Piyush Goyal reciting the Kalma at an event in Kolkata which went gone viral on Twitter has sparked Twitter storm.

The video is three years old, in which, Goyal said every morning he recites ‘La Ilaha Illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah’ while performing puja.

The Kalma is the first of the Five Pillars of Islam. Its English translation is: There is no God except Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger.

As reported by the Print, Goyal’s speech is from a January 2016 event organised by ‘Taleem Ki Taqat’ — an initiative by Gujarati businessman Zafar Sareshwala.

The old video of a programme in 2016 caught the fancy of Twitterati on Monday when @TheSameerAbbas posted it showing the ‘secular’ avtar of the right-wing minister.

The post received a mixed response from the Twitterati, while some praised the Union Minister while some expressed their shock at Piyush Goyal’s apparently secular speech.
