‘Poisoned’ cake: All eyes on report

Hyderabad: Siddipet police are awaiting for the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report on the cake, birthday cake allegedly laced with poison and killed the birthday boy and his father on Thursday.

The condition of the mother who was hospitalised is said to be stable, police said.

According to Cherial Police, the FSL report will be shedding more light on the contents/ingredients of the cake, which will help them proceed ahead in the investigation.

The incident was reported in Ainapur village of Komuravelli of Siddipet district on late Wednesday night.

The Cherial police of Siddipet has booked a case and started a probe. Preliminary investigation revealed that there was some property dispute between the man and his cousin brother, who had sent the cake, suspected to be poisoned.

As per details, I Ravinder was married to Bhagyalakshmi and they had two children Pujitha (12) and Ram Charan ( 9). He is said to have property disputes with his cousin brother named A Srinivas.

As per the statement received from Charans’s mother, it was claimed that his
uncle brought a cake for the birthday party from a nearby bakery and handed over the same to the family. At about 10:30 pm, the family gathered for the cake cutting ceremony at their residence and celebrated the boy’s birthday”
said the police.

About an hour later, the health of the family members who consumed the cake started worsening and they were rushed to a private hospital.

Ravi and the boy were declared dead by the duty doctors and the condition of his sister Pujitha and the mother is said to be critical. The family suspected that Charan’s uncle might have brought the poison mixed cake and based on their complaint, the police took him into custody and are investigating” added the official.

The police has booked a case of suspicious death under section 174 of CrPC and started a probe.
