Hyderabad: The State Election Commission has got ready for conducting the second phase of gram panchayats polls on January 25. Out of 4,137 gram panchayats, in this phase 3,342 will be going to polls for Sarpanch posts while 788 were elected unanimously, nominations not filed for seven panchayats.
As many as 10,668 candidates are in the poll fray for the Sarpanch posts in districts. Similarly 26,209 wards out of 36,620 wards will go to polls, nominations were not filed in 94 panchayats and 10,317 unanimous, 63,380 candidates in contest. The first phase of elections for the panchayats was conducted on January 21, second phase on January 25 and third phase on January 30 as per the schedule. The campaign was over on Wednesday and the leadership involved in luring the voters in their favour using money and liquor.
The ballots already used for the first phase will be used for the second phase and same officials will discharge duties and the Election Commission was taking steps against any lapses or problems during the election process. So far, the Election officials seized Rs 1.78 crore money and Rs 36.27 lakh worth liquor at several places.
