Rana Ayyub, latest contributing writer on ‘Washington Post’

The Washington Post has hired the Journalist, Independent columnist and an author Rana Ayyub as its latest contributing writer to the Global Opinions section.

Mumbai-based journalist Ayyub will write regularly about political affairs in India, the Jeff Bezos-owned company announced on Thursday.

Ayyub, known for writing against the Indian government”s policies, joins Global Opinions writers covering India, including Barkha Dutt.

Ayyub was a “fearless investigative journalist with years of experience reporting on politics and social issues in India” and would bring “unparalleled perspective” to the publication, said Fred Hiatt, the newspaper’s editorial page editor.

Ayyub was thrilled to join The Washington Post. She said, “Hope I can make a meaningful contribution to a newspaper with a legacy of speaking the uncomfortable truth.”

She was previously an editor with the investigative magazine Tehelka.

She is also author of “Gujarat Files: Anatomy of a Cover Up,” a book that investigates the role of PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The prominent journalist has often faced hatred and vicious abuse on social media platforms from Hindutva activists.
