Review petition: ‘Muslims will become laughing stock’

New Delhi: Will the review petition being filed by Muslim parties challenging Supreme Court judgment in Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title case be productive for Muslims? Answering to the question, Justice Mohammed Suhail Eijaz Siddiqui said the verdict of the court is according to the constitution. It is being tried to raise the issues which were already dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court, in its verdict on November 9, said the entire 2.77 acres of disputed land should be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, who was one of the three litigants. It also directed the Centre to allot a five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board in Ayodhya to build a mosque.

According to an Urdu newspaper, Justice Eijaz Siddiqui said, ‘In my opinion the decision to file review petition is unfortunate. The verdict is an anonymous decision of the five-judge Constitution bench. There is little possibility of review on the judgment. Hence there is a strong possibility that the plea will be dismissed without hearing.’

After the review petition is dismissed, Muslims will become a laughing stock, warns Justice Siddiqui.
