Shutters down at Charminar in protest against CAA-NRC

HYDERABAD: Business establishments around the historic Charminar downed shutters on Saturday in protests against National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

In a major protest against the CAA 2019, hundreds of people turned up in Makkah Masjid at Charminar on Friday.

After offering the weekly afternoon prayers, protesters raised slogan denouncing the the newly-enacted citizenship law, following which some youngsters were detained by the police.

Protests have been held at different places in the Telangana capital ever since the Parliament passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, and it got assent from the President becoming a law.

The CAA offers citizenship to persecuted Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains and Parsis from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, excluding all persecuted Muslims.
