Stolen diamonds worth Rs. 40 Lac recovered with arrest of two

Hyderabad: Stolen diamonds worth Rs. 40 lakh were recovered from a gang of two persons, who were arrested for stealing 60.20 Carats of diamonds from a jewellery shop in Hyderabad, police said on Saturday.

The accused has been idientified as Ramesh Mansoor Thandeshwar ageing 65 years and Mayur Kishore Kumar Suru aeging 44 years, both of them are the residents of Mumbai.

According to police, on 29 November 2019 two persons came to a jewellery shop in Basheerbagh to purchase diamonds claiming to be a resident of Bangkok. They stated to the shop owner that they have visited Hyderabad to attend a function of their relatives, on 30 November 2019 the complainant procured and showed diamonds weghing 60.20 Carats to Mayur, as he insisted the complainant to put the diamonds in an envelope and seal it.

Meanwhile, another person, who was accompanied by Mayur has taken an empty envelope by saying that he wanted to gift money in an envelope to his relative in the function. Thereafter Mayur and his friend went away saying that, they will come on the next day.

On 1 December, they visited the sop and aked the complainant to show the sealed packet after which they checked the seal packet containing diamonds and after few minutes, they have left the premises by saying that they will return after some time.

As they didn’t turn up for buying even after lapse of 4 days, the complainant grew suspicious and checked the sealed cover and found fake diamonds in the seal cover. The Complainant came to conclusion that the above said two persons have exchanged the seal cover with another sealed cover containing duplicate diamonds, whenn the complainant was busy with another customer, police informed.

Police after analyzing the CCTV cameras went to Mumbai and arrested the two persons Ramesh and Mayur with the 1000 pieces of duplicate diamonds and two cell phones with Bangkok SIMs from their procession.

Later, the jewellery shop owner lodged a complaint against Ramesh and Mayor and a case was registered with Saifabad police under the sectoin 406 and 420 of IPC.

A special team of officers reached Borivali in Mumbai and nabbed accused persons Mayur Kishore Kumar Suru and his associate Ramesh Mansoor Thandeshwar.

The accused persons disposed of the stolen booty at 58.71 Carats to a diamond merchant at Bandra in East Mumbai for an amount of Rs. 14.69 lakhs and the same has been shared equally by the accused persons and spent by them to meet their expenses, and clear debts.

The police recovered the same diamonds of 58.71 Carats from a diamond merchant in Mumbai and remaining 1.49 Carats from Ramesh.
