Telangana: 16 people died of sun stroke in one day

Hyderabad: The “burning” Sun has virtually turned the two Telugu States Andhra Pradesh and Telangana into cauldrons forcing the toiling masses people to remain indoors. As a result, curfew like situation prevails in the towns and villages in both the States.

Even as some people dared to come out of their homes to attend unavoidable works, some people, especially old persons were dying due to oppressive heat wave. On Thursday alone, 16 people died of sun stroke in Telangana State. In the undivided Karimnagar district five people breathed their last due to sun’s fury. Similarly, four persons each succumbed to sun stroke in undivided Nalgonda and Khammam districts. Two persons in Siddipet district and one in Medchal-Malkajgiri district lost their lives due to sun’s fury. Most of the victims were aged persons, who thronged the private and government hospitals.

In the residual Andhra Pradesh State, the people were reeling under unbearable hot spell. The mercury levels have gone up in the two Godavari districts, Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore districts. The Met officials said the day temperatures were hovering between 45 degrees to 47 degrees Celsius in the State. They also said temperatures would remain the same for the next couple of days.

Keeping this in mind, the officials of Health department have requested the people not to venture out of their houses unless there was an emergency work. They also advised the people to protect themselves from falling victims of sunstroke.
