Third series of Kathmandu Pinkathon colours the capital pink

Kathmandu: The third series of Kathmandu Pinkathon, a marathon to raise the awareness about breast cancer coloured the roads pink in Kathmandu on Saturday.

The event featured four categories including a half marathon (21km), 10km, 5km and 3km races. The race features only women to raise awareness and encourage women to adopt an active lifestyle.

Speaking with ANI, a participant, Anjana Tamang said, “This is an awareness campaign and I am so happy to participate in this event. Since it is regarding the women’s breast cancer, I am glad that I participated in this event of Pinkathon,”

The awareness run organised annually was flagged off from Nepal Police Headquarter, Tangal with a cash prize of Rs 51,000, Rs 31,000 and Rs 21,000 respectively for top three winners in the 21km event.
A turn out of more than 5,000 participants was expected in the event this year.

Likewise, the top three athletes in 10km race will be rewarded Rs 31,000, Rs 21,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively, while the 5km winner will receive Rs 11,000. The athletes will get Rs 1,000 per second if they break the national record.

However, the organisers are yet to decide the venue for the race.

Pinkathon, a popular event in India with the race held every year in eight different cities, started in Nepal three years ago. United Sister’s Foundation has provided Leisure Port with the responsibility of organising the race in Nepal.
