Hyderabad: The joint action committee (JAC) of advocates from Telangana has pledged to fight against India’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register and issues surrounding these three subjects.

Formed on the day Delhi Police barged into Jamia Millia Islamia and brutally assaulted students inside and outside the campus, the lawyers’ JAC sprung into action. It organized a protest in Hyderabad at High Court recently.

Speaking to siasat.com, the Convener of JAC Adv. Mohd Vali Ur Rahman told that there were about 300 lawyers of different faiths from across the state who have joined the JAC to fight for the people’s cause free of cost.

“We organized protests against CAA and NRC. Later, we have offered legal services at the participants of the Million March who have been booked by the police and rescued at least 50 of them from three different police stations in Hyderabad,” he noted.

He further said that the advocates’ JAC offered to voluntarily fight around 25 cases booked against the organizers of Million March in the court of law.

The aim of this JAC is to bring awareness about anti-people CAA, NRC and NPR, and provide legal aid that may be required without any charge for this cause, says Adv. Shafiullah Quadri, the Co-Convener of the JAC.

When asked about their reach and plan of action, Adv. Quadri told that the JAC had about 10 units in different courts starting from High Court to District Courts and Munsif Courts in Telangana State.

“Our plan is to bring lawyers from all courts in Telangana State on board into the JAC and go beyond the state too. The issue is national, so we will make it a national JAC of lawyers against CAA, NRC and NPR. We will organize formal training in this regard by visiting courts and places wherever our units have been established,” he revealed.

In addition to advocates Vali and Quadri, the core members of the JAC include: Guru Murti, Syed Shah Nawaz, Nagendar garu, Mohammed Afzaluddin Dakhani, Muhammed Veqar Hussain, M.A. Hameed, Mohammed Sohail Malik, Mohammed Ateeq Pasha and Hamed Mohammed.

According to the convener, any lawyer can join the JAC and any person in need of legal help related to CAA, NRC and NPR can contact the JAC members anytime.
