Vet doc’s case: MPs demand lynching, death penalty

New Delhi: Looking at the gruesome murder case of Hyderabad’s Veterinarian rape and murder case, an uproar was witnessed across the nation including the Rajya Sabha where many MP’s demanded lynching, death sentence for the accused.

Jaya Bachchan’s intervention in the Upper House of Parliament came during a series of such speeches by MPs on the horrific incident while MP Vijila Sathyananth of the AIADMK too vouched for the accused’s death penalty before December 31, Indiatoday reports.

Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the issue couldn’t be solved through legislation alone and said there was a need to “take a stand together against such crimes”.

Speaking on the incident, Vice-President (and Rajya Sabha Chairman) Venkaiah Naidu said what is required to tackle such crimes is not a new bill, but “political will, administrative skill,” and a change of mindset.

And then, he said, “go for [the] kill of the social evil”.

Meanwhile, Asha Devi, the mother of the victim in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case urged the authorities for justice sooner than her own family, which has been fighting for seven years.
