Violence has no space in democracy: Naveen Patnaik

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal president and Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has strongly condemned the violent attack over students inside Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and has demanded swift action to apprehend the culprits.

“Shocked to know about the violent JNU attack. Violence has no space in democracy and such attacks on students must be condemned unequivocally. Appeal law enforcement agencies to take swift action to apprehend the culprits and wish the injured students a speedy recovery”, Patnaik said in a tweet.

The violent attacks in JNU, which has led to over one dozen, including students and faculty members being injured has invoked strong condemnation from different political quarters.

Earlier on Sunday evening, more than 18 students, including JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, were injured and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after a masked mob entered the JNU and attacked them and professors with sticks and rods.

The JNU administration and political leaders, cutting across political lines, had condemned the attack on students and urged the police to take action against the perpetrators.
