Woman gets RI for sexually abusing partner’s 5-year-old daughter

Thane: A court in Thane sentenced a woman to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a five-year-old minor daughter of her live-in partner.

Pronouncing the verdict, District Judge D G Murumkar also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the 33-year-old accused who is a resident of Thane district’s Mumbra town, TNIE reports.

The additional public prosecutor Ujjwala Moholkar had successfully proved all charges leveled against the woman accused under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to reports, the minor used to live with her father and the woman while the victim’s mother was working in Dubai.

The minor’s father used to remain away from home for prolonged duration due to his work. The woman took advantage of this and would sexually abuse the girl in his absence.

The matter came to light in April 2015, when the girl complained of severe pain and disclosed it to her father followed by the father filing a complaint against the accused.

She was tried in the court under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
