Youth carrying Saudi Riyals worth Rs 34.7 lakhs arrested

Kochi: Saudi Riyals amounting to Rs 34.7 lakhs were seized from a youth who was acting as a ‘carrier’ without proper documents by the Special Squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Ernakulam.

The foreign currency was seized from the Kozhikode native at the Angamaly railway station on Saturday, TNIE reports.

According to reports, 24-year-old Abin MA a native of Madayil’s Kariyathinkavu was immediately taken into custody for carrying Saudi Riyals in various denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 in a sealed backpack.

On arrest, the youth confessed he was a ‘carrier’ and that he was transporting the currency to a firm located at Nedumbassery airport.

The accused was later handed over to Customs preventive division for further legal action, RPF officials said.
