Delhi: If BJP wins, masjids on govt land will face demolition

NEW DELHI: BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma on Saturday said mosques constructed on encroached government land will be razed after BJP comes to power.

The 70-member Delhi Assembly will go to the polls on February 8. The results will be declared on February 11.

“The government land on which religious places are constructed will be vacated after BJP forms government in Delhi. Complaints have come regarding more than 54 mosques and madrassas on government land in Delhi. The list has already been given to the Lt Governor,” the West Delhi MP tweeted in Hindi.

In June last year, the West Delhi BJP MP claimed that mosques and graveyards were mushrooming on government-owned properties in the national capital, particularly in West Delhi — his constituency.

He had said, “Who gives permission for mosques and cemeteries to be built on government land? And who is giving them protection?” He further added, “I have told the LG to form a committee, this should be investigated and people should get to know the truth that more than 90% of the mosques are built on government land and 100% temples and Gurudwaras are built on DDA allotted land. Why this kind of discrimination?”

According to IANS-CVoter Delhi poll tracker 2020, an overwhelming 54.6 per cent respondents 54.6 per cent favoured AAP, 27.3 per cent said that they would support the BJP and just 3.7 per cent, said they would vote for the Congress.
