‘Health Guru’ Baba Ramdev supports firecrackers, says SC order targets a community

New Delhi: After Chetan Bhagat giving a religion turn to Supreme Court’s ban on firecrackers on Diwali, the Yoga Guru, Baba Ramdev, opposed the SC order and said that only a particular community is being targeted.

Talking to India TV during an interview, Patanjali owner said: “Is it right to take the legal move for everything? I run schools, universities… we permit only hand-held firework that burns slowly… we don’t support firecrackers with high decibels. Ban should be imposed on big firecrackers.”

Chetan Bhagat had also recently in a series of tweets deduced how the ban is against the Hindu festivals.

Several people including Shashi Tharoor defied Bhagat’s reasoning, while many supported him. Tharoor had tweeted that firecrackers are bad for everyone while sacrifices on Bakr-Eid only hurt goats.

However, Ramdev also attacked Tharoor and said that ‘an intelligent man like him must not talk like this.’

The apex court, in a verdict on October 9, had banned any kind of fireworks in Delhi-NCR region due to its alarmingly threatening air quality, which is being laden with toxins.

The court also said its order ending the ban on sale of firecrackers might require a ‘review’ after Diwali depending on the ambient air quality after the festival.
