Zainab Ansari’s rape and murder: Pak anchor goes on air with daughter to protest

Karachi: Pakistani channel Samaa TV’s anchor Kiran Naz, brought her daughter on air to protest against eight-year-old Zainab Ansari’s brutal rape and murder. Kiran’s emotional move has stirred numerous to tears.

Kiran spoke about how she had felt as a mother on hearing Zainab’s killing. She read the news bulletin while her daughter kept sitting on her lap. Kiran condemned the killing and said, “It is true when they say that the smallest corpses are the heaviest and entire Pakistan is burdened by the weight of her funeral.”

Riots had erupted in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Wednesday over police inaction after the body of Zainab was found dumped in the trash after being raped multiple times.

Two people were killed and two were injured as protesters stormed the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kasur with sticks and stones.

Zainab had last attended a tuition centre near her residence last Thursday on January 4, after which she was allegedly abducted. Her family received a footage showing her with a stranger near Peerowala Road, the video has since got viral on social media.

A police constable on Tuesday recovered Zainab’s body from a trash heap.
