New Delhi: A motorcycle seizure allegedly escalated into a clash between police and locals in Delhiās Bhalswa Dairy area. Three police personnel were injured during the confrontation, Delhi Police said.
According to reports on Sunday, August 23, the personnel were allegedly attacked with bricks and sticks, and chilli powder was thrown into their eyes by a group of people in Janta Vihar a day ago.
The incident reportedly occurred in the afternoon when police personnel were on routine patrol of the area.
During the check, they reportedly seized a motorcycle that lacked valid documents and took it to the police station.
According to Delhi Police, at around 3.30 pm, the owner of the bike, accompanied by his family, confronted the personnel over the confiscation. The situation soon escalated as the group allegedly threw chilli powder at the personnel and attacked them with bricks and sticks.
While head constables Dinesh and Rajesh were initially attacked, Tinu was assaulted when he arrived to help his peers, PTI quoted a police officer as saying.
All three sustained injuries in the attack. HC Dinesh suffered a head injury. They were given medical treatment and are now stable.
With the assistance of locals, police also apprehended a 17-year-old from the spot. The remaining accused managed to flee, and efforts are underway to trace them.
According to media reports, the Delhi Police has identified Sunil, alias Pankaj, as the main accused. He has five previous criminal involvements, including cases related to heinous offences and two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), they said.
A case has been registered at Bhalswa Dairy Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway and the police are trying to apprehend the rest of the accused.
