Major trading fraud busted

A major trading fraud in which a victim was cheated of Rs 2.93 crore through a fake WhatsApp trading group was also busted by the cybercrime police.

According to the police, the victim was added to the group where fraudsters posing as professional investment advisors shared fabricated profit screenshots with promises of high returns through trading plans, block trades, upper circuit stocks, and IPO investments.

The accused initially allowed the victim to withdraw a small amount to build confidence before pressuring him to invest larger sums. The money was transferred into multiple bank accounts linked to a fake institutional trading platform. Once significant funds were deposited, the fraudsters blocked further withdrawals.

Police said the accused used mule bank accounts to route the amount cheated.

Shekar and Tinesh Kumar Parjapathi, residents of Telangana, were arrested for allegedly supplying bank accounts in exchange for commission.

The Cyberabad Police have urged citizens to practice caution when engaging in online investment activities, stressing the importance of verifying the authenticity of investment advisors and trading platforms through official sources. Citizens have also been advised against transferring money to unknown accounts shared via social media platforms.

People are encouraged to report suspicious activities immediately by calling the cybercrime helpline 1930 or by filing a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
