Muscat: A 35-year-old Indian expat died on Friday, August 21, after collapsing during a tennis-ball cricket match in Al Hail, Oman, according to media reports.
The deceased was identified as Shabeer Basheer, a native of Thuravoor in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. He had been living and working in Oman for around 14 years and was employed by Electroman LLC.
Basheer was playing for Jiffnain Challengers when he suffered a sudden health emergency between 9 am and 9.30 am. Fellow players rushed him to NMC Hospital in Al Hail, where doctors provided emergency treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
However, he could not be revived.
Basheer was the captain of Jiffnain Challengers and was known among the local cricket community. His sudden death has left his teammates and friends in mourning.
He is survived by his wife, who works at a private hospital, and their child. They had been living with him in Muscat.
The necessary formalities have been completed, while arrangements are being made to repatriate his body to India.
