Oil tankers catch fire in Jammu, blaze under control

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

Jammu: Several oil tankers caught fire in Jammu city on Wednesday, prompting a quick response from the fire and emergency services department, which successfully prevented a major tragedy, officials said.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, they said.

The fire broke out under mysterious circumstances in one tanker near the RTO office at Transport Nagar and rapidly spread to four or five other tankers, according to officials.

Two tankers containing lesser quantities of oil were gutted in the blaze after they burst into flames, they added.

The area, which houses a large number of tankers and jhuggies, is considered highly vulnerable.

Fire service personnel rushed to the scene with multiple fire tenders and brought the blaze under control after an hour-long operation, officials said.
