Rakhi gesture: Girl ties rakhi on poor man’s wrist in viral clip

The gesture that has drawn emotional reactions online ahead of the festival that celebrates the lifelong bond between a brother and a sister.

With Raksha Bandhan around the corner, a heartwarming video has been circulating on social media, showing a visibly underprivileged man clad in tatters approaching a group of schoolchildren. In the clip, one of the girls is seen tying a rakhi on his wrist as the others look on, a gesture that has drawn emotional reactions online ahead of the festival that celebrates the lifelong bond between a brother and a sister.

The video begins with schoolchildren running helter-skelter on a street with small shops on one side. With a small crowd gathering there, the man stops in front of a schoolgirl, a rakhi in his hand.

The girl, a little afraid in the beginning, musters courage and ties it around his wrist. The man then seems to tell her that he has nothing to give her as a gift. The girl gestures that it is all right. The man then hands her the stick that he was carrying earlier while walking.

While Siasat.com hasn’t been able to trace the origin or verify the authenticity of this video, the incident seems to have taken place in an Indian city.
