Young man critical after mob assault in UP village

The young man alleged he was attacked solely for his religious identity.

A young Muslim man was viciously attacked by a mob of over 10 people in Barla village of Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh.

The attack took place on Thursday, August 21. Fardeen, whose medical condition is said to be critical, said that he was targeted solely for his religious identity.

“They attacked me with sharp objects and called me a katua (a derogatory slang used against Muslims),” Fardeen told local news.

When contacted, neither the Barla police nor the Muzaffarnagar police responded.
