Hyderabad: A 31-year-old Armed Reserve Police Constable became the latest donor under Jeevandan Telangana after his family decided to donate his organs following an accident that left him brain dead.

Kambala Shankar, a native of Nalgonda district, worked at the Amberpet police headquarters. On March 28, he accidentally fell off his two-wheeler in Bhongir. His family rushed him to the Government Area Hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital in Hyderabad.

He was declared brain dead on March 31.

Shankar’s family then decided to donate his kidneys and liver, thus helping three patients in need.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar paid tribute to Shankar and praised his family.

“Police Brother Who Donated Life to Three Even in Death! My salute to the sacrifice of Shankar Garu’s family members. Your generosity will inspire many others,” his post read.
