Contempt plea filed in SC over Delhi Metro station closures

He claimed he visited the GTB Nagar and Vishwavidyalaya stations at around 9:30 pm and found the entry gates shut. He said he filmed the locked gates.

An advocate has accused the Centre, Delhi Police and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) of defying a Supreme Court order by shutting Metro station gates, and has sought contempt action against three senior officials.

In a plea, advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi named Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and DMRC Chairperson D Thara. He has also sought the immediate withdrawal of what he described as blanket restrictions on public transport, Bar and Bench reported.

Tripathi alleged that the DMRC announced the closure of entry and exit gates at 45 Metro stations despite the Supreme Court’s order.

He claimed he visited the GTB Nagar and Vishwavidyalaya stations at around 9:30 pm and found the entry gates shut. He said he filmed the locked gates.

At Jantar Mantar, Tripathi claimed, he saw only police and paramilitary personnel at around 8:30 pm and no protesters.

He also alleged that authorities continued to cancel trains and failed to adequately publicise revised travel arrangements for commuters.

The allegations are those of the petitioner. There was no immediate response from the Union Home Ministry, Delhi Police or the DMRC.
