DAANA hosts Deccan College principal at Chicago alumni event

A key part of the gathering was a presentation by Dr Hasan, titled "The Art of Diagnostic Thinking."

Hyderabad: The Deccan Alumni Association of North America (DAANA) hosted Dr Ashfaq Hasan, Principal of the Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS), Hyderabad, at a gathering of alumni and community members in Chicago.

The event was also attended by former Indian diplomat Ambassador Dr Ausaf Sayeed, Naperville Councilman Ashfaq Hussain and several DCMS alumni and members of the medical community, according to a statement issued by DAANA.

The event was held at the residence of Dr Altaf Aman, the president of DAANA.

Talk on diagnostic thinking

A key part of the gathering was a presentation by Dr Hasan, titled “The Art of Diagnostic Thinking,” in which he spoke about the reasoning process behind clinical diagnosis and stressed the continuing relevance of clinical judgment in modern medicine, even as imaging technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have advanced.

He said the ability to listen carefully, recognise patterns and think critically remained central to good patient care.

The gathering also saw the release of Ambassador Sayeed’s book, “Indian Art and Culture,” to the Hyderabad medical community present.

Sayeed, who has had an extensive diplomatic career, has been associated with efforts to promote Indian culture abroad.

Alumni used the occasion to interact with Dr Hasan and the other guests, recall their years at the college and discuss the future of medical education, with DAANA saying such gatherings were aimed at strengthening ties between DCMS in Hyderabad and its alumni network in North America.
