Hyderabad experiences first unseasonal rains and hailstorms of 2026, causing flooding and disruption.
Hyderabad: Amid the active monsoon in Telangana, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has forecast heavy rains in the state till Tuesday, August 25.
Apart from rains, the state is likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, etc.
In view of the expected heavy rains and other weather conditions due to the active monsoon, IMD Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert, which will remain valid till Tuesday.
Meanwhile, T Balaji, a weather enthusiast known for his accurate forecasts, wrote on his X handle that Hyderabad will witness one or two widespread moderate downpours during afternoon to overnight hours.
For other districts, he wrote, “Widespread heavy-very heavy downpours ahead in North, East TG like Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jagitial, Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri – Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad.”
In the case of the city, the weather department has forecast light to moderate rains or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds till August 25.
Yesterday, the highest rainfall of 66 mm was recorded in Kumuram Bheem, as per data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS).
In the case of Hyderabad, the highest rainfall of 43.5 mm was recorded in Shaikpet.
As the weather department has forecast heavy rains in the coming days, residents need to plan their travel accordingly.
