Hyderabad: Cockroaches, mould at Manikonda cafe, notice issued

Hyderabad: Kanchi Cafe in Puppalaguda, Manikonda, has been issued an improvement notice after a Cyberabad Municipal Corporation food safety inspection found cockroaches, houseflies, mould-affected vegetables, water stagnation, and missing compliance records at the premises.

The inspection, carried out on June 22 as part of CMC’s ongoing food safety drive across Cyberabad, gave the establishment 56 out of 94 marks, or 60 percent, in the hygiene assessment.

Inspectors noted open dustbins placed between the kitchen and storeroom, causing foul smell and attracting flies, dust accumulation on the storeroom ceiling, and water stagnation near the grinding and vegetable cutting areas. Mould growth was found on the cauliflower, and a foul smell was reported near the drains. Batter stored in refrigerators was found without proper labels.

Medical fitness certificates for food handlers, pest control records, water testing reports, and packaging material testing records were all found to be unavailable at the time of inspection.

On the positive side, the cafe displayed a valid FSSAI licence and food handlers were observed maintaining personal hygiene.

CMC officials issued instructions to implement proper food labelling and improve overall housekeeping, and served an improvement notice directing the management to immediately rectify all food safety and hygiene violations.

The CMC Food Safety teams have been conducting regular inspections of restaurants and eateries across Cyberabad to enforce hygiene standards.
