Hyderabad engineer seeks job after ‘too young’ layoff remark

The engineer who has around three years of experience shared his situation on Reddit.

Hyderabad: A software engineer from Hyderabad has started looking for new job opportunities after being laid off from Microsoft with a ‘too young’ remark.

The engineer, who has around three years of experience, shared his situation on Reddit.

Engineer says he is sole family earner

According to his Reddit post, the engineer is the sole earning member of his family. He said he supports his parents, contributes towards his sister’s education and is also managing a loan taken by his father.

He said his manager told him during the layoff call that his relatively young age and an assumption that he did not have major responsibilities were factors behind his inclusion in the headcount reduction.

However, the engineer said he believes this was probably an attempt by his manager to console him and was not necessarily the actual reason for the layoff.

Experience in backend, full-stack and Agentic AI

The Hyderabad-based engineer said he has worked across backend and full-stack development during his three years of experience.

More recently, he has been working extensively on Agentic AI projects and taking part in hackathons.

He also said he is comfortable independently handling projects from 0 to 1 including developing projects from the initial stage.

Open to engineer jobs in Hyderabad

He said he is open to Software Engineer 2 and Software Engineer positions at big technology companies, startups and companies from other sectors.

He is also willing to relocate anywhere for the right opportunity.

In addition to full-time jobs, he is open to freelance and contract work. He said he can independently work on backend, full-stack and AI or Agentic AI development projects.
