Hyderabad techie held for abusive comments against corporator

The accused, using a fake social media handle, posted highly abusive, defamatory, and sexually explicit comments about the corporator.

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old software employee was arrested by Hyderabad Cybercrime Police for allegedly posting objectionable comments targeting Khairatabad Corporator P Vijaya Reddy.

According to a complaint lodged by Reddy, she had attended an inaugural function for a government school at Irrum Manzil in October last year, videos of which were shared by local Instagram channels.

The accused allegedly created a fake social media handle to post highly abusive, defamatory, and sexually explicit comments about the corporator under these videos.

A case was registered under Sections 66(D) (punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resources) and 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act and Sections 79 (word, sound, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence

) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the accused was arrested.
