Adnan had noticed that the gold ornaments worn by his mother and sister at family functions were being kept inside an almirah at their house.

Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident, a 19-year-old man from Hafiz Baba Nagar was arrested along with two of his friends for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from his own house, selling them and buying a car and iPhones with the money.

The 19-year-old has been identified as Mohd Adnaan Shareef. His two accomplices have been identified as Mohammed Rehanuddin, 25, and Mohammed Sameer, 22.

According to the police, Adnan had noticed that the gold ornaments worn by his mother and sister at family functions were being kept inside a wardrobe at their house.

With a desire to earn easy money, Adnan stole the gold from his house on four different occasions throughout March and asked Rehan and Sameer to sell it.

With this money, the three accused bought a Verna car, two iPhones, a OnePlus phone and a RealMe phone.

On March 29, the family noticed that the ornaments were missing and lodged a complaint with the police. A case was subsequently registered under section 305 (a) (theft in a dwelling house) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The three were arrested on Friday, April 3, and have been sent to judicial remand. Police have recovered 13.7 tolas (159.79 gram) of stolen jewellery and are yet to recover six more tolas, which were used to buy the car, Kanchanbagh Station House Officer Y Kamal Kumar told Siasat.com.
