Hyderabad: Teen labourer dies of hemorrhage after attack by wooden spoon

Alam's brother accused the juice centre owner of not letting him see the victim till the police arrived.

Hyderabad: A 16-year-old labourer died of a brain haemorrhage after being struck during a late-night altercation in Tolichowki in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8.

The deceased, Gulrez Alam, got into an argument with the accused, 19-year-old Moakhil, at the Nice Juice Centre where they were employed. During the exchange, Alam slapped Moakhil, following which Moakhil struck him with a wooden spoon. Both are migrant labourers from Bihar.

Humayun Nagar Police said the incident occurred around 12:30 am. “A case of murder has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been arrested and an investigation is underway,” police told Siasat.com.

Police said there was no prior enmity between the two and the reason behind the argument is yet to be ascertained.

Alam’s brother told the media that the victim was employed at the Nice Juice Centre at Tolichowki and that he was beaten during a fight. “My younger brother was beaten during a fight. The owner of the juice centre informed me that Gulraiz was injured and his nose was bleeding,” he said.

He accused the owner of not letting him see his brother until the police arrived. “The owner kept my brother locked inside the shop until the police arrived,” he said.

Alam’s brother said that his brother was declared dead at the hospital. “When we arrived at the hospital, the doctor declared him dead. When I went back to the juice centre to look for Alam’s colleague, who was going to testify regarding the fight, the owner had sent him away.”
