Congress celebrates majority in J-K; BJP nears hatrick in Haryana

The Congress is ahead on 37 seats, and the BJP on 48 in Haryana.

The trends from the counting of votes on Tuesday showed the Congress crossed the magic number of 46 in Jammu and Kashmir. However, in Haryana, the BJP crossed the halfway mark.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress-National Conference alliance is leading on 49 seats whereas, BJP and PDP are ahead in 29 and 3 seats respectively.

The INC-NC alliance is likely to push Omar Abdullah as the chief minister of Jammu-Kashmir, while the BJP is yet to reveal its CM face. According to sources, Nayab Singh Saini is likely to continue as the chief minister in the BJP’s third term in the state.

The counting of votes began at 8 am with postal ballots being opened first. The counting of votes polled through EVMs will start half an hour later.
