Raja Singh acquitted in 2022 Prophet Muhammad remarks case

Hyderabad: The Special MP/MLA Court here on Tuesday, June 30, acquitted Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh in a 2022 case registered at Mangalhat police station, in which he was accused of making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad in a YouTube video.

The remarks had triggered violent protests across the Old City in August 2022, prompting his arrest under the Preventive Detention Act and 77 days in jail before he was released on bail.

The court acquitted Singh after the complainant in the case stated during proceedings that the verses in question referenced Islamic literature. Going through the witnesses and evidence placed before it, the court held that no case had been made out against the BJP leader.

Singh has faced over 40 cases across police stations in the city over the years; however, despite video evidence, he has been acquitted in most of them. Following Tuesday’s verdict, he said the ruling affirmed his faith in the judiciary and thanked his supporters and lawyers for standing by him through the case.
