‘Hot-headed’ RPF jawan kills senior, 3 passengers on Jaipur-Mumbai train

Two on-duty RPF constables allegedly had a major fight in which one took his gun and started firing at the other one.

Mumbai: In a horrifying incident, an angry Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable allegedly shot dead a colleague and three passengers onboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Express here on Monday.

According to the GRP Control here, the incident occurred between the Virar and Mira Road Road stations at around 5.30 a.m.

In the firing, the accused Chetan Singh allegedly killed his senior, an assistant sub inspector at the RPF, and three other passengers, including a woman.

Singh attemtped to flee on the next station but was apprehended.

Speaking to the media, Inspector General of RPF (Western Railway) Praveen Sinha said that the accused was quite hot-headed and shot at his senior, while rubbisging rpeorts of an altercation that led to the firing. “He lost his temper and shot his senior. Then killed whosoever saw it,” NDTV quoted Sinha as saying.

The deceased senior Tikaram Meena from Rajasthan and was an assistant sub-inspector with the RPF and is survived by his wife and an 80-year-old mother.

A Rs 25 lakh compenstion alongside an additional assistance of Rs 15 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased.

Police and RPF officials are investigating the incident and further details are awaited.
