Pregant women in burqa allege mistreatment at shopping mall in Secunderabad

As per the allegation of two pregnant women, they were repeatedly checked by staff despite completing their shopping.

Hyderabad: Two burqa-clad pregnant women have alleged harassment at a shopping mall in Secunderabad, claiming they were stopped and searched by staff on three separate occasions despite having paid for their purchases.

A video of the incident surfaced on social media on Saturday, May 2. In the video, the women said they had shopped for goods worth around Rs 5,000 before being detained at the exit. Even after the initial check turned up nothing, they were reportedly subjected to two further searches.

Angered by the treatment, the women confronted the mall staff and recorded a video of the employees who had checked them.

“She is not checking anyone else, just us two. Do we look like thieves to you? She checked us thrice,” one of the women recording the incident said. “We are pregnant women and you still subjected us to this treatment.”

The pregnant women claimed security staff singled them out for inspection while allowing other shoppers to pass unchecked.

Upon being confronted, the security woman apologised. However, the group of women demanded proper accountability and asked the mall staff to return their money. Meanwhile, the senior management staff tried to diffuse the situation.
