Fire at Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A fire broke out at the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Hyderabad’s Nampally on Saturday, February 7, causing thick smoke to rise from the premises and drawing a large crowd to the spot.
The fire was first reported at 10:20 am, and 6 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the blaze. No casualties have been reported from the accident; however, one person reportedly suffered minor injuries.
Visuals from the scene showed smoke engulfing parts of the building as officials and police personnel managed the situation.
Speaking to reporters, Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police K Shilpavalli said that the fire was first spotted by an office boy who tried to douse it with a fire extinguisher. He sustained minor injuries and has been admitted to a hospital, the DCP said.
“Since it was morning time, there were hardly 3-4 people present, and all were safely evacuated. We suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit, but we are still investigating,” she added.
When reporters pointed out that fire accidents are happening at Nampally every Saturday, the DCP played it down, saying that such incidents are a common occurrence.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders alleged foul play behind the fire, saying it was an attempt by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to “erase evidence.”
“I am guessing the voice recordings of the famous “Vote for Note” case, and trying to cover up for lack of evidence in cooked-up political cases like phone tapping.” BRS working president KTR posted on X, replying to another BRS leader, Manne Krishank, who asked, “What evidence are you erasing @revanth_anumula?”
Telangana Fire Director General Vikram Singh also visited the spot and informed reporters that, according to preliminary investigation, the fire originated from an MCB switch on the first floor. He added that this floor houses the computer room, thus there is a chance of research and analysis files being damaged.
“We will make sure fire safety inspections are carried out at all government offices and make a report on the preventative measures lacking from these buildings,” the DG said.
