Hyderabad: The ICSI has inaugurated its new Chapter Office here, a five-storey building with Rs 10 crore investment.
The 10,200-sq-ft new office building, inaugurated on August 23, provides enhanced infrastructure for professional education, training, examinations, meetings, capacity-building programmes and other activities of the ICSI Hyderabad Chapter, a release said here on Monday.
ICSI president CS Pawan G Chandak said the new facility would provide a stronger platform for the growing community of Company Secretaries and students in Hyderabad and Telangana and enable the Hyderabad Chapter to undertake a wider range of professional, educational and stakeholder-engagement initiatives.
Chandak said the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) currently has around 80,600 members and 2.5 lakh students across India, while the Hyderabad Chapter has approximately 2,300 members and 3,000 students.
He said the ICSI has 77 chapters across India, and is also planning to expand its international presence, with a European Union Centre likely to be established in the Netherlands.
Describing Company Secretaries as Corporate Governance Professionals, Chandak said India has emerged as a global leader in this field.
“While there are around 1.3 lakh Corporate Governance Professionals globally, India alone has 80,600 Company Secretaries. This places India in a leading position in the world in terms of the number of professionals engaged in corporate governance,” the release quoted him as saying.
He said the expanding regulatory and governance requirements of businesses were creating significant opportunities for qualified Company Secretaries.
Chandak also highlighted the potential demand for Company Secretaries arising from the increasing formalisation and listing of MSMEs, the release added.
