
Hyderabad: In view of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 cricket matches being held from April 5 to April 22 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, the Malkajgiri Commissionerate has elaborate arrangements for the safety of players and spectators.
A total of 2,000 police personnel are being deployed for the bandobast, including 750 law and order police, 300 traffic police, 10 platoons of Telangana State Special Police/Armed Reserve Force, 20 mounted police and four fire tenders.
Gate no 1 of the stadium has been exclusively allotted for players, while spectators will be allowed through gates as per their ticketing. An evacuation plan is ready for any emergency situation, the police said.
Moreover, 430 closed circuit televison (CCTV) cameras will cover the entire stadium, including vehicle check points and parking places. A joint command and control room is also being established to monitor all the CCTV footage.
Scanners installed at the stadium will allow police and other security personnel to detect explosives and other prohibited material, as a bomb disposal team and sniffer dogs will be pressed into service.
Three people will also be deployed at each gate to check spectators’ mobile phones.
SHE Teams will look out for any instances of eve-teasing, and vendor supervising teams will control the vendors and their rates.
What not to carry to the IPL matches in Hyderabad
Police have also released a list of banned items, which includes laptops, banners, water bottles, cameras, cigarettes, electronic items, matchbox, lighters, sharp metal/plastic objects, binoculars, writing pens, batteries, helmets, perfumes, bags, key chains, flammable substances, pet animals, laser pointers, handbags and outside eatables.
No cloak room facilities are available at the stadium premises.
Spectators will be allowed into the stadium three hours before the match. Authorities have erected sufficient signage boards at all the main roads from Habsiguda to Uppal, LB Nagar to Uppal, Medipally to Uppal, Ramanthapur to Stadium, with proper arrow marks to guide people to the venue.
Traffic advisory
Moderate traffic congestion is expected from Nagole to Habsiguda via Uppal Junction and from Boduppal to Amberpet via Uppal Junction and Ramanthapur on April 5 from 12 pm to 11:50 pm. Citizens are requested to avoid these routes and take alternative routes.
People are also advised to use public transport like RTC buses and the Metro to reach their destination and avoid traffic congestion.
The viewers are not allowed to park any vehicles on either side of the main road from Genpact to Uppal Ring Road and Uppal Ring Road to Vishal Mart, Ramanthapur, and the vehicles must be parked at the prescribed designated parking areas only.
Parking areas
From Uppal X-Roads to Habsiguda, attendees can park at Penguin and Telangana Industrial Area Local Authorities (TGIALA).
From Uppal X-Roads to Ramanthapur, attendees can park at the open place of DSL Virtue Mall (Opposite NSL building) and Modern Bakery.
Ground parking has been reserved exclusively for VVIP, VIP, and other authorised pass holders, and they should enter Gate 1A only. Vehicles without valid passes will not be allowed beyond the Ek Minar and LG Godown check-posts.

Traffic diversions
The diversions apply only to heavy vehicles such as lorries, rocket lorries, dumper, earth movers, trucks, tippers, water tankers, Ready Mix Concrete vehicles, JCBs, Eicher vans, private buses and tractors.
Vehicles from Ghatkesar to Uppal will be diverted at HMDA Uppal Bhagayath entrance at Mehfil Hotel towards Nagole – LB Nagar.
Vehicles from LB Nagar to Uppal will be diverted at U Turn at Nagole Metro Station towards Nagole U Turn – HMDA Bhgayath – Toyota U Turn – Boduppal – Chengicherla – IOCL Cherlapally or Ghatkesar.
Vehicles from Tarnaka to Uppal will be diverted at Habsiguda X Road towards Nacharam – NFC Rotary – IOCL Cherlapally – Ghatkesar.
Vehicles from Ramanthapur to Uppal will be diverted at Street No 8 towards Habsiguda X Roads – Nacharam – NFC Rotary – IOCL Cherlapally – Ghatkesar.
Vehicles from Warangal towards Hyderabad via Uppal shall take the ORR at Ghatkesar and proceed via Abdullapurmet – LB Nagar – Dilsukhnagar.
Vehicles from Hyderabad towards Warangal via Uppal shall proceed through LB Nagar – Hayathnagar and take the ORR at Abdullapurmet to reach Warangal.
