Telangana: Ex-Sirpur MLA Konappa resigns from BRS, to join Congress

Konappa said that he would join the Congress on March 14, in the presence of minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka.

Hyderabad: Former Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa on Wednesday, March 13, resigned from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) citing the party’s decision to align with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as the reason for the call.

Konappa was also the BRS’ Komaram Bheem district president.

He said that the alliance decision was “deeply disappointing” as state BSP chief RS Praveen Kumar had personally insulted him and his cadre during the Assembly polls.

Konappa further said that he would join the Congress on March 14, in the presence of minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka. The MLA said that chief minister A Revanth Reddy in a recent meeting invited him to the party.

He stated that Revanth responded positively in terms of solving issues in the Sirpur constituency. “I am not joining the ruling party for any personal benefits or positions. I am interested in being available to the public and in serving their interests,” he added.

Konappa started his political journey with the Congress and was elected as an MLA from Congress in Sirpur from 2004-2009. Later, he joined the BSP and won in 2014, then shifted to the BRS and won again in 2018.

But in 2023 Assembly polls which witnessed a triangular contest in Sirpur with BJP’s Palvai Harish Babu and state BSP chief RS Praveen Kumar in the race, Konappa lost to the BJP candidate.
