Hydeabad: In a significant crackdown on illegal sand smuggling, the Vigilance & Enforcement (V&E) officials of the Warangal Unit intercepted an organized interstate sand smuggling operation on the outskirts of Narayanapuram village in Sathupally Mandal of Khammam district.
Acting on credible inputs, officials conducted a surprise check and intercepted three sand-loaded tippers carrying about 100 metric tonnes of sand.
During the enquiry, it was found that the drivers belong to Bethupalli village of Khammam. The investigation also revealed that the illegal smuggling operation was organized by Dodda Srinivasa Rao and Dodda Praveen. They reportedly planned and carried out the illegal trade to earn illicit profits, causing loss to government revenue.
Preliminary enquiries showed that the group had been smuggling sand for the past six months. The sand was being transported from the Kovvur sand ramp in East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, to Sathupally in Telangana.
To avoid legal procedures, the smugglers allegedly paid for JCBs to load sand without having valid permits for excavation and transportation.
A criminal case has been registered at Sathupally Police Station with F.I.R No.150/2026. The case has been filed under the BNS, PDPP Act, and MMDR Act against eight accused, including drivers, vehicle owners, and organizers involved in illegal sand smuggling.
The Vigilance & Enforcement Department stated that it is committed to curbing such illegal activities and preventing the loss of public revenue and misuse of natural resources.
The public has been requested to report any instances of illegal sand mining, transportation, or misuse of government resources to the Vigilance & Enforcement Department so that strict action can be taken.
