
Kushinagar: A woman succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Gorakhpur days after her brother-in-law attacked her with a spade over money in Hata Nagar’s Sahbajpur, police said on Friday, April 3.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the accused, identified as 32-year-old Brijmohan alias Dablu, demanded money from the victim, 35-year-old Sunita.
According to police sources, when Sunita couldn’t give the money, the accused repeatedly attacked her with a spade while she was doing household chores.
Locals rushed to the house upon hearing the victim’s screams and took her to AIIMS Gorakhpur in critical condition.
She died during treatment late Thursday night, police said.
Hata Kotwali Inspector-in-Charge Sanjay Dubey inspected the crime scene on Friday morning and recorded neighbours’ statements.
Probe revealed that the victim’s husband, Omprakash Singh, is employed in Gujarat and has been briefed.
Preliminary reports suggest that the accused may be suffering from mental health issues and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Gorakhpur. He remains at large, police said.
They said the body has been sent for a postmortem in Gorakhpur and police will initiate legal proceedings and file a case after the family submits a written complaint.
