Hyderabad: Sikhs to observe martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur on Dec 8

"Vishaal Keertan Darbar" followed by a "Nagar Keertan'' will be held at the Municipal Grounds in Sitafalmandi on Sunday.

Hyderabad: Sikhs across the twin cities will observe the 349th martyrdom of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur on Sunday, December 8.

The Sikh guru made supreme sacrifices for the nation at the altar of dharma. To mark the occasion, Prabhandak Committee of Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sitafalmandi, will hold “Vishaal Keertan Darbar” (mass congregation) from 11 am to 3.30 pm, followed by a “Nagar Keertan” (holy procession) at 4.30 pm on Sunday.

The event will be marked by the recitation of holy “Gurbani keertans” (holy hymns) by the reputed “Ragi Jathas” (religious preachers) who are being specially invited from various parts of the country to render “Shabad keertans” on the teachings of the Sikh gurus and Guru Granth Sahib.

Bhai Binder Singhji Taantisaaz wale of Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib, Bhatinda, Giani Nishan Singhji Gandiwind, Head Granthi, Baba Buddha Saheb and other Ragi Jathas will render shabad keertans and kathas. After the culmination of the congregation Guru Ka Langar (free community kitchen), food will be served to all the devotees.

Later in the evening, a colourful holy procession will be taken out from the Gurudwara Saheb Sitafalmandi at around 4:30 pm that will pass through the main corridors of Guru Teg Bahadur Bhavan- Deep Lifestyle- lane opposite Balaji Mithai Bhandar- Pee Pee Traders, after which it will return to Gurudwara Saheb in the evening.

Nishan Sahebans (religious flags) from all the Gurudwaras of the twin cities, Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones) displaying sword-fighting skills and other breath-taking skills will be displayed all along the procession.

Guru Granth Saheb will be carried on a beautifully decorated vehicle, and keerthani jathas will render shabad keertans along the procession.
