Bengaluru: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), one of India’s premier educational and research institutions, is once again drawing widespread attention not for its academic achievements, but for its breathtaking green campus that has left social media users mesmerised.
A video shared by IISc student Divyansh Tiwari on Instagram has gone viral, showcasing the institute’s expansive tree cover and carefully nurtured urban forest. The clip offers a stunning aerial view of the campus from the seventh floor of the institute’s IDR Building, one of the newer structures within the sprawling Bengaluru campus.
In the video, Tiwari explains that at first glance the view resembles a dense forest rather than a university campus. With Bengaluru’s skyline visible in the background, he describes the green expanse as a meticulously planned “urban forest” developed over the years by the IISc administration.
“If you look from here, you might think this is a dense forest. But this is not a natural forest. Bengaluru city lies beyond it. What you see is an urban forest that has been carefully planned and cultivated by the IISc administration,” he says in the video.
The student further points out the variety of colours visible in the tree canopy, ranging from shades of green and orange to pink and purple. According to him, the vegetation has been strategically planted to create a visually rich and ecologically sustainable environment.
Nestled amid the greenery is the institute’s iconic heritage-style main building, adding to the scenic beauty of the campus. Tiwari also shared how the view serves as a source of relaxation for students and researchers after long hours spent in laboratories and classrooms.
“After spending an entire day working in the lab, watching this beautiful green canopy in the evening is pure bliss,” he remarked.
The video was shared with a caption praising the foresight of the IISc administration in transforming the campus into one of the greenest educational institutions in the country. The post quickly gained traction online, attracting admiration from students, alumni and nature enthusiasts alike.
Many social media users expressed amazement at the campus landscape. One commenter said the location looked more like a peaceful forest retreat than a college campus, while another remarked that studying in such an environment would be a dream. Several users also highlighted the importance of thoughtful urban planning and praised IISc for successfully balancing infrastructure development with environmental conservation.
The viral video has once again highlighted IISc’s reputation not only as a centre of scientific excellence but also as a model for sustainable campus development in an increasingly urbanised city.
