‘Vision 2047 has turned into Poison 2047’: Harish Rao targets CM over food poisoning cases

Attacking chief minister A Revanth Reddy, the Siddipet MLA said, "This 'Mestri' (Masson) is preparing to play against Messi. He spent Rs 100 crore for the match."

Hyderabad: A day after 20 children fell ill over alleged food poisoning incidents in residential schools across Hyderabad, senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T Harish Rao called it a total administrative failure and remarked the chief minister’s “Vision 2047” had turned into “Poison 2047” for hostel students.

The former minister along with MLAs Kaleru Venkatesh and Mutha Gopal, visited King Koti Government Hospital and met students of the Bagh Lingampally Minority Residential School who have been hospitalised after reportedly consuming contaminated food.

Launching a sharp attack on the Congress government, he said that food poisoning cases have become a daily occurrence in Gurukuls. “This ‘Mestri’ (Masson) is preparing to play against Messi. He spent Rs 100 crore for the match,” he said.

He cited recent incidents, including complaints by students of a BC Gurukul in Shameerpet over worm-infested rice, and the hospitalisation of 43 children from Chandu Naik Thanda in Madhapur. “This government prefers to spend on publicity. The slogan ‘Telangana Rising’ exists only in advertisements. Before talking about a trillion-dollar economy and future cities, the government should ensure that hostel students are served safe and hygienic food,” he told mediapersons.

He questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s priorities for preferring to spend crores on football events instead of visiting hospitalised students.

The former health minister also took a swipe at senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is scheduled to meet football legend Lionel Messi during his G.O.A.T. India tour. “He has time for this but cannot spare to meet the affected families of farmers, auto drivers or students here,” Harish Rao said.

On Friday, 60 students suffered food poisoning in two separate incidents. At Mandal Parishad Primary School, Chandra Naik Thanda, Madhapur, 102 students were served their mid-day meal by NGO Akshaya Patra. They were also served a seviyan kheer as a sweet, which reportedly caused 44 students to suffer vomiting.

At about 3:00 pm, they were rushed to the Kondapur government hospital for treatment. Six students were later shifted to Rainbow Hospital in Gachibowli for better treatment. According to the Madhapur police, all the admitted students are out of danger.

Earlier on Friday, 16 students from the minority residential school in Bagh Lingampally were admitted to the King Koti government hospital after they complained of vomiting and abdominal pain following Thursday’s dinner.
