Hyderabad: A land dispute case in Metpalli town of Telangana’s Jagtial district has taken a dramatic turn after doctors discovered a metallic object lodged in the head of a woman who was initially believed to have been assaulted with sticks.
The victim, identified as Gonela Lakshmi of Matham Vada, was allegedly attacked by her close relatives on June 15 over a land dispute.
Based on the initial complaint and visible injuries, police registered a case treating the incident as an assault with sticks. However, the investigation took a new direction after Lakshmi, who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment.
During medical examinations and scanning tests, doctors detected a metallic object extending from her head to her jaw. She subsequently underwent surgery, during which the object was removed.
Following the surgery, police suspect that the object could be a bullet fired from a country-made firearm. The recovered metallic object has been sent to a forensic science laboratory for examination to determine its exact nature.
Investigators are now probing whether an illegal firearm was used in the attack. Police are also examining possible links involving migrant labourers from Bihar who were reportedly working for the accused and whether the weapon may have been procured through them.
Investigation turns with new evidence
Officials said the case, which was initially registered as a simple assault, is being investigated from multiple angles in light of the new evidence.
Further investigation is underway, and police are awaiting the forensic report to establish whether the metal object recovered from the victim’s head is indeed a bullet.
