Hyderabad: A Hyderabad court sentenced a 29-year-old man to life imprisonment for the 2021 murder of a woman he was in a relationship with, whose body was found in Cyberabad’s Vidyuth Valley Layout with her gold ornaments and mobile phone missing, the police said on Monday, August 24.
Dommari Raju, a resident of Peeramcheruvu village in Gandipet mandal of Ranga Reddy district, originally from Mahabubnagar district, was convicted by the X Additional District and Sessions Court at Rajendranagar and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of Rs 20,000, Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crimes) A Muthyam Reddy said in a statement.
Victim went missing after leaving for work
According to the police, the case dates to September 5, 2021, when Meedinti Manamma reported that her daughter, Meedinti Suvarna, who worked in housekeeping at a Vishal Mart outlet, had gone missing after leaving for work the previous evening.
When Suvarna did not return home, her mother began searching for her and eventually learnt from a local resident that a body matching her description had been found with injuries in Vidyuth Valley Layout.
Investigation established that Raju, who was in a relationship with Suvarna, was responsible for her death. Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the two travelling together on a motorcycle to the spot where she was later found.
Accused confessed to attack after argument: Police
Police said Raju confessed during the investigation to attacking Suvarna following an argument and to stealing her gold ornaments and mobile phone before attempting to destroy evidence to avoid detection. Call data records corroborated the pair’s communication and presence at key locations, while a postmortem examination attributed the death to the injuries inflicted.
Raju was arrested on September 22, 2021, and a chargesheet was filed after the investigation was completed under sections 302 (murder), 379 (theft), 404 (dishonest misappropriation of property) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), registered at Narsingi Police Station.
Following a full trial, the court convicted Raju and handed down the sentence.
